If you’re reading this blog, we’re super proud of you already. Maybe you were inspired by PRIDE month, a friend, or even a movie about revealing your identity to loved ones. At Mindwell Urgent Care, we want to help affirm who you really are and work toward the goal of having you live your best life honestly.
That being said, the world is a scary place where not everyone will be supportive of your life choices. Whether you live in Florida, New Jersey, or even in the DFW area where we are headquartered, there are people who may not have a positive reaction to your coming out moment. Those could be family members, friends, roommates, or even coworkers who simply cannot accept your lifestyle. But at no time should you feel “un-safe” revealing yourself to people in your circle – or they should not be in your circle.
Coming out doesn’t need to be a big production – you’re not taking out a billboard or announcing it on live TV for the world. Often the moment is intimate, a conversation one-on-one with someone you trust and who you want to be completely honest with. Our counselors and therapists can work with you to find the words to describe how you’re feeling and how you can prepare for the reaction of loved ones.
If you are in a position where you feel that coming out would put you in danger, or affect your personal safety, we urgently encourage you to speak to our team about your personal situation. All of these worries may lead to mental health issues such as:
- Anxiety, or even panic attacks
- Depression and sadness
- Paranoia and psychosis about worse-case-scenarios
The worries about coming out may also trigger past memories of trauma, abuse, or emotional triggers. Our therapists, counselors, and mental health professionals are here right now to help you process all of these thoughts and feelings. Whether the thought just crossed your mind to come out, or if you’ve been contemplating it for some time and struggling with it, we are here for you right now. Our services are designed to meet you wherever you are on your journey and to provide you with affirming, inclusive care that continues long after you’ve come out.
Mindwell Urgent Care’s system of mental health professionals are available for in-person services in Dallas, as well as tele-psychiatry services throughout Texas, Oklahoma, New Jersey, Florida, and Kansas.
We are currently accepting new patients and can offer same-week and often same-day appointments. We can also help to connect you with partner resources in your area for additional support. Call us today or hit the Schedule Now button to schedule an appointment today.
